Addressing Ireland's Plastic Waste Challenge

We tackle the critical issue of plastic waste disposal, aiming to meet EU recycling targets and reduce environmental impact through innovative recycling processes and job creation.

Waste Burning Issue

The main issue at hand is the current method of disposing of plastic waste in Ireland, with 70% (245K tonnes) being burned in cement kilns or energy plants, 27% being exported abroad after sorting, and only 3% being recycled domestically.

EU Regulations Compliance

This poses a problem for Ireland as it needs to comply with EU regulations, which require 50% of plastic waste to be recycled by 2025 and 55% by 2030. Failure to meet these targets would result in fines of 800 Euro per tonne.

Recycling Initiative

Pure Recycling Technologies aims to address these challenges by offering a solution on multiple fronts. Firstly, we intend to recycle 15K tonnes of plastic waste each year. This alone will make a significant impact in reducing the amount of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in the incineration or export stream.

Circular Economy

Additionally, the end product of our recycling process, pyrolysis oil, will be utilized by a petrochemical company to produce new products from polymers. This not only creates a circular economy by reusing the plastic waste but also allows the petrochemical company to access additional grants from the government due to their use of pyrolysis oil.

Job Creation

By implementing this comprehensive approach, Pure Recycling Technologies not only addresses the pressing issue of plastic waste but also contributes to job creation, with at least 20 employees being hired to support our operations.
